More about our staff & techs!

In case you wonder about all the people who really run the place... We've all written short bios. Or will be writing them soon!

Darth Vader

My name is Vader and I'm the clinic cat and feline blood donor. I can usually be found sleeping in various places, or laying on files they are trying to write in, or begging for my meals. The feline stomach can't tell time! All in all I have a good life, but prefer to act the long suffering forgotten mascot in hopes of getting an extra meal. It works amazingly well for me!

Jessica Jett, CVT - Customer Service Manager

I am a Certified Veterinary Technician and graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2004. I have been involved in some facet of veterinary medicine for almost 14 years as an assistant, student, technician, and management. I joined the BEBT team in the spring of 2010 after relocating back to the Iowa City area with my family. When I'm not here, I spend most of my time trying to keep up with my daughter who is usually harassing our cat Reginald (a BEBT adoption) and explaining to my husband that "he will grow out of digging in the garbage."

Paige H., Reception

Paige Holem, Reception

I'm a 2007 UI graduate in Biological Anthropology with a specialization in Education and American Sign Language. I came to BEBT in 2011 after working as a Preschool Teacher for 3 years and working with mentally and physically handicapped individuals for 6 plus years. I grew up having animals, and developed a care for animals in need. I've found my passion working with animals. My family consists of my boyfriend Bryan and our 2 dogs Isabelle (Boxer mix) and Murphy (Rat Terrier/Chihuahua). We love being outside and enjoying nature.

Alyssa, Reception

Alyssa Powills, Reception

I came to BEBT in 2011 from a management position at a local restaurant where I worked for 4 years. I grew up in a zoo of animals always wanting more. At 14, I started volunteering at the Iowa City Animal Shelter where I worked for over a year. Nowadays, if I'm not doing an art project, I spend my time outside of work playing with my dog Kushea and cat Prisha. Kushea and I love to go on off-trail walks and long car rides. Prisha loves to be outside with us as well, hunting little critters. My two animals are my pride and joy, I'd almost consider them my children.

Amy Chase, Veterinary Assistant

After working in nursing for 7 years I came to BEBT a little over a year ago due to my extreme love for dogs.  My dog family consists of a 140-pound Great Dane/German Shepherd mix and two 7-pound Chihuahuas.  Recently, a cat has joined my dog family.  He came to me at only 5 days old and needed to be bottle-fed every 2 hours.  With the help of my dogs he is turning into a great cat who is crate trained and walks on a leash!

Kylie D., Assistant

Kylie Day, Veterinary Assistant

I am a student at the University of Iowa studying pre-veterinary medicine.  I enjoy maintaining a reef aquarium and caring for my three cats, Abby, Leo, and Mr. Squishy Cheekums.  My other hobbies include reading, playing the flute, and playing video games, especially Minecraft.

Samantha Jordan, Veterinary Assistant

Hi! I'm Sam. In the last 10 years I have graduated from the Veterinary Technology program at DMACC, worked at two veterinary hospitals and the Muscatine Humane Society.  I enjoy applying my years of experience to the well being of patients at BEBT.  In my free time I try new exotic foods, sip red wine, and read any book I can get my hands on.  Having grown up in a military family I have enjoyed traveling the world, but I find that I am ready to settle down and plant some roots.   My idea of a great vacation is hiking in to the wilderness to go camping with my husband, Josh, and our 3 year old black Labrador, Venus.

Sara S., Assistant

When not working, I can be found playing with Torey dog in the park, updating myself on important issues with the newest edition of Vogue Paris, writing my faraway friends at the Times Club, or harassing le boyfriend at The Vine.

I also have a bazillion indoor cats, 5 barn cats, chickens, turkeys, sheep, and a big green F350 that I love almost as much as my animals! When I used to have spare time I liked to read, now I just do chores and drive Hwy 218! Someday I hope to learn to knit socks. Nothing else, just socks. :)
